Saturn Returns
A choreopoem by Sonny Nwachukwu
About the Production
Saturn Returns is a ‘choreopoem’, a live dance and spoken word performance, that explores the subconsciousness of relationships, drawing on black culture. Saturn Returns delves into an astral projection reality where the characters take on forms of past present and future lives. Through open conversations between the characters touch on subjects such as Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, community and love. Saturn Returns brings an intimate yet urgent reminder about unhealed pain and asks the important questions about identity and healing, topics truly relevant to society today. The term choreopoem was first coined by Ntozake Shange in the description of her work ‘For Colored Girls’ This format has inspired women of colour and the POC LGBT community. We aim to draw the audience deeply into a visual literature piece through this rare & unique form.
